Under the impact of Covid-19, the relationship between a mother and a daughter who are trapped with each other due to isolation at home becomes increasingly tense, while the mother suffers from progressing schizophrenia. The Fall is director Chung Mong-Hong's second film to represent Taiwan to compete for Best International Film of the Academy Awards after A Sun. It has also won four awards at the 58th Golden Horse Awards, including Best Feature Film and Best Leading Actress.
The film uses waterfall as a metaphor for the accumulated and eventually bursting pressure under the pandemic, which impacts all of us. The important scene of the flooding river in the film was shot around Tonghou River in Wulai, New Taipei.
